Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie
Under 20 minutes’ drive away from Siblu’s Le Bois Dormant and Le Bois Masson, the charming fishing village of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is the oldest port in Vendée and is famous for its sardine fishing. Why not visit La Perle des Dieux, a unique sardine canning factory which proudly produces vintage sardines and also has its own museum and art gallery. The town is also home to the Maison du Pecheur which recreates what a fisherman’s cottage in the 1920s would have looked like.

It is also well worth getting a ferry over to the beautiful Ile de Yeu during your stay in the region. Just 17km off the Vendée coast, this 23km2 island of 5,000 inhabitants boasts beautiful beaches and secret coves, amazingly diverse landscapes, a fascinating history and some unique local legends. The perfect place for a peaceful day of hiking, birdwatching or exploring.

Ile de Noirmoutier
Connected to the mainland by a bridge, the Ile de Noirmoutier is another of Vendée’s beautiful islands. With over 25 miles of beaches it is particularly well-known as a hotspot for water sports including sailing, diving, paddle boarding and kite surfing. Noirmouitier is also famous for its culinary specialities: tuck into oysters, shellfish, turbot and natural salt (harvested from the salt-water wetlands which cover a third of the island). Interestingly it is also considered to be home to some of the world’s best potatoes (the ‘Bonnotte’ variety).
